Yes, all Fireshield timber surface coatings compy with:

• New Zealand: Group 1-S. See our Technical Data Sheets for more details. 

• Australia: Group 1 surface rating and compliance with the NCC 2022 C1P4 for Class 2-9 Buildings using Codemark Certificate of Conformity CM-30071. See the Codemark certificate for all conditions relating to a compliant application and installation in the Australian Documents.

Fireshield intumescent products can be used to fire rate:

• interior timber linings to give up to a Group 1-S surface rating for interior surfaces.
• structural steel members from 30 to 120 minutes in interior and exterior zones.
• interior structural timber members existing or new for up to 60 minutes.
• interior CLT surfaces for encapsulation. 

Only Fireshield trained and Registered Applicators can apply Fireshield coatings. Contact us for an Applicator in your area.

To apply to become a Registered Applicator contact Fireshield direct. In some cases, training can be completed on the job to save you time and money.

For Group 1-S/Group 1 on internal timber surfaces, you can typically apply one coat of the intumescent basecoat with an airless spray unit. This can vary depending on the composition and structure of the substrate, so please contact us if you are unsure.

The number of coats required on steel sections is dependent on the fire rating required and the film thickness, the product PDS will have the maximum allowable film thickness per coat.

Yes, see the product PDS for all details on timber substrates, but in general all Fireshield coatings can be applied on timber that is:

• >8mm thick and
• a minimum density of >338 kg/m³.

Just ask your timber supplier for the density of your timber substrate if you’re unsure.

TIMBER:

Fireshield TimberClear and TimberOne must always be sealed with our system top coats.

For dry internal applications, TimberWhite and Timber Whitewash, can be installed without a topcoat if they are away from possible human impact. Otherwise, a Fireshield approved topcoat can be used.

STEEL:

In interior C1 concealed zones, all Fireshield products can be installed without a protective topcoat. If exposed to view or human impact a protective or decorative top coat can be applied.

Our waterborne products require a top coat in C2 interior zones.

Fireshield 920KS epoxy can be left without a top coat in concealed C1/C2 zones, top coated in any zone if exposed to view, and when installed in C3 to C5 zones a top coat must be used as part of the protection system.

FIRESHIELD TimberWhite, TimberOne, Timber Whitewash for timber and Steel 1001 and Steel 1002 for steel are halogen-free, water-based, Red List Free and carry the Declare label from the Living Building Foundation in Europe, the only intumescent products available in NZ and AUS to carry the Declare labels.

Yes, but the substrate must be a timber-based substrate and meet the conditions and limitations of >8mm thick and >338kg/m³ density.

The Fireshield® range of products do not comply with the DTS solution C2.D11, no timber intumescent product can.

Fireshield® timber intumescent systems use the Performance Pathway C1P4 for Safe Conditions for Evacuation, the CodeMark is the evidence of suitability that Fireshield® Timber Intumescent Coating Systems will achieve Group 1 rating and an average specific extinction area of less than 250 m2/kg.

Yes you can use tested primers with our steel intumescent range, we test all primers approved for use with the Fireshield steel intumescent range and warranty the performance.

Yes we do, all steel intumescents are available with primers - intumescent - top coats as fully warranted systems.
